
The South-South Youth Leaders Forum is the largest youth group in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. The group exposes exploitation and oppression of the people of Niger Delta, it also seek to orient the people against environmental degradations and devastations upon the land and people of Niger Delta.
South-South Youth Leaders Forum is a non-violent organization which uses legal and conventional means to constantly remind multinational corporations of their social responsibility towards the land and people of Niger Delta.
As a group it also seek to use relevant local dialects to ask youths to refrain from sabotage of oil facility basically because of the effect of such sabotage on the environment.
South-South Youth Leaders Forum as part of its goals seek to localize the control of Oil and Gas Sector, believing that it will enhance empowerment among the people, and also reduce unemployment which is a major problem in the region.
As part of its goal is to address pollution caused by the Oil Industry, SSYLF, without doubt agreed that the Niger Delta is unjustly impoverished and seeks steps to eradicate such poverty, by empowering the people of the region with the right knowledge and information. SSYLF is more of an umbrella organization of several proactive youth groups within Nigeria’s Niger Delta.
South-South Youth Leaders Forum was necessitated by the firm resolve of youth leaders from various major, responsible and responsive youth groups within the region, having collectively agreed that the region is in serious need of a more formidable group to represent the interest of youth in the Niger Delta.
This came up when almost all the groups agreed that the region has suffered an unprecedented degradation of our environment due to unchecked pollution caused by oil multinationals, most of our people can no longer fish nor farm.
Some issues which the SSYLF see as a “must fight” issue is the call for relocation of multinational oil companies head offices to the various states where they have their base in the Niger Delta.
